FAQ

What is included in the kit?

VetteSpare tire kit for C6 Corvettes includes:

             Polished aluminum wheel

             H rated spare tire

             Jack

             Lug wrench

             Mounting hardware

             Tire cover

Where is the spare tire stored?

The spare tire mounts behind the passenger compartment and it does not interfere with roof storage.

What about rear differential wear or damage?

When mounted on the rear, the static loaded radius of the VetteSpare spare tire gives a better static loaded radius dimension than the run-flat without air; so for a given speed and distance, there is less risk of damage to the rear differential.

Why not use a plug kit?

An air pump and a plug kit are of little use in the event of a large puncture, holed sidewall or a damaged rim.

Why not stay with run-flat (extended mobility tires)?

Cost:  run-flat tires are the most expensive replacement choice.

Mediocre Wet and Dry Traction:  a high performance car like the Corvette should have tires that stick well in dry and wet conditions.

Noise:  run-flat tires are very noisy.

Ride Quality:  run-flat tires are harsh and have poor ride quality.

Handling:  run-flat tires have poor break away characteristics and will jerk the car about wildly on uneven pavement.

Limited Driving Distance:  once run-flat tires are flat, the factory recommends less than 100 miles at 55 mph.

Risk of Rim Damage:  driving with a deflated run-flat tire increases the risk of rim damage from potholes, bumps, etc.

Mounting Difficulty:  run-flat tires are difficult to mount and dismount.  This can result in damaged rims which is why some tire dealers will not service them.

Shorter Life:  run-flat tires wear out faster; most replacement tires offer better wear characteristics.
